Open House
Sunday, May 22nd 10 am - 4 pm
Ashokan Center as part of its annual Civil War Days weekend on May 21-22 will host an open house for all active military members, veterans, reenactors and their families. The entire Ashokan Center campus will be opened to the military community to thank them for their sacrifice and all they do to preserve our freedom. The open house is being held in conjunction with this year's Civil War Days event that will commemorate and honor Hudson Valley’s citizen soldiers who answered President Lincoln’s call to defend and preserve a more perfect Union. Communities throughout the nation will begin holding a series of events to mark the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War in 2011. Ashokan's appreciation day will celebrate 150 years of support for our troops. In 2004, the U.S. Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month. In addition, the third Saturday in May is Armed Forces Appreciation Day.
We are pleased and honored to provide the Hudson Valley and Catskill community with a dedicated day for people to come together to show their appreciation and support for the armed forces. Join us on May 22nd to celebrate our military and the role it has played in the development of our country chronicled through, unbending honor, self sacrifice, dedication to duty and love of country. Abraham Lincoln once remarked, “I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives, I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.”
